Keeping Employee’s First Week Pay

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q: Salaams, Some companies have a practice of keeping an employee’s first week’s salary. They do not pay this until the employee resigns or is terminated. what is the Islamic view on such practice?

A: Wa alaikum As Salaam,

This practice is unIslamic. When one performs a job/service, then he must be paid his wages in full at a time when salaries are normally paid to employees. There is no justifiable reason for this practice, and Muslim owned companies must not adopt this practice.

And Allah Knows Best.
