Is it permissible to do work/research and someone else takes credit?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Asalam o Alaikum! I am planning to do an online job where I do be doing assignment and writing thesis for some people and then they will use it by their own name. Is it permissible for me to take this job as I would be doing the whole work for someone and they are just using it by their name.

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

الجواب و بالله التوفيق

It is unethical for someone to use your work which you have done fully by your own self and put their names attached to it as if it is theirs. This is dishonesty on the part of those who show themselves to be writers of articles or authors of theses when they have not done any of these, and are attaching their names to such material. This is deception to others also. Seeing that this involves dishonesty on the part of those who will use your name, you should not do this job since this means that you will have to agree to this and also accept a wage for doing this.

If someone needs help in an assignment and you assist that person and he/she attach his/her name to it, then there is no problem to this. It is allowed.

Similarly, if you do articles for magazines which they publish and do not attach your name to it to show that it is your piece, then this is also acceptable.

And Allah Knows Best.
