Men should not wear rings made with stainless steel. According to the accepted verdict given by the majority of scholars, men must only wear rings made of silver. This is based on a tradition in which it is stated that a man came to the Prophet (S.A.S) and on his hand was a ring made of iron. Upon this, the Prophet (S.A.S) said, ‘Why is it that I see upon you the jewellery of the people of the fire.’ Then the man came again and on his hand was a ring made of brass. Upon seeing this, the Prophet (S.A.S) remarked, ‘Why is it I smell from you the scent of idols?’ The man then asked, ‘O Prophet of Allah! From what should I take a ring?’ The Prophet (S.A.S) answered, ‘Take it from silver, but do not let it reach one mithqaal (approx. 4.37grams).’ (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Nasaii).

Based on this and other similar ahadith, the Fuqaha (jurist experts) have stated that a man must not wear a ring except that it is made from silver, and that wearing rings made from stone, iron and brass is Haram (unlawful). ‘ (Nasb Ar Rayah (from Jami As Sagheer) – Vol.4, Pg.534, Dar Al Kitab Al Ilmiya, Beirut 1996).
