Is there a limit on how much profit a person can make on a product they are selling?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Questions:

As salaam Alaikum,

I have two questions:

1. Is there a limit on how much profit a person can make on a product they are selling?

2. Is it a condition that before one can marry a Christian women one must find out what they believe about prophet Esa (alaihis salaam)?

Was salaam.

Answer:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

1. The profit must not be exorbitant so as to be oppressive upon a person with respect to the price charged for an item. It should therefore be within the normal range that traders may put as a ‘mark up’ for a given product.

2. Normally, this is not a condition. However, due to the widespread concocted beliefs, as well as the atheistic beliefs prevalent among present-day Christiams, one should find out about their beliefs in Isa (AS) before marrying one of them.
