Being grateful to people

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: When somebody helps us, do we say that Allah has helped us, and the person has no role in helping us?

Bismillaah

A: We believe that everything happens with the will and help of Allah Ta’ala. Hence, if we receive any good, then we attribute the good to Allah Ta’ala and we thank Him for it. However, together with thanking Allah Ta’ala, we are also commanded to be grateful to the means through which we receive the good. Therefore, we will also express our gratitude to the person whom Allah Ta’ala made the means for us receiving the good.

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “The one who is not grateful to people (for the good he receives from them) is really not grateful to Allah Ta’ala”.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
