Employee doing private work during work hours

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: What is the Islamic ruling on an employee that does remunerative private work during his working hours for his employer? Are these earnings, both salary and private work halaal? If the employee takes time off that his employer does not approve of or is not aware of, does the salary earned become haraam?

Bismillaah

A: This must be discussed with his employer. If his employer allows him then it is correct. And if he does not allow him then it is not correct and his salary will be tainted.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
