Crying during salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Does crying during one’s salaah nullify the salaah? The crying is due to thoughts of emotional hurt, one’s past, etc. coming to mind.

Bismillaah

A: If one cries during salaah out of fear or love of Allah Ta’ala or for any deeni reason (e.g. the fear of Jahannum or desire to enter Jannah, etc.), the salaah will not break regardless of whether one cried audibly or not. If one cries during the salaah for any other reason besides the love or fear of Allah Ta’ala or some deeni reason, then if the sound of the crying is audible, the salaah will break.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
