Replying to someone who greets with the word ‘salaams’

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Do we have to reply to someone who greets us by just saying ‘salaams’?

Bismillaah

A: The sunnah method of making salaam is that one should add the word عليكم to the salaam by saying السلام عليكم. One should not just say salaams as this is against the sunnah method of making salaam. However, if someone greets you with the word salaams, you should reply to the salaam.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
