Replying to Salam

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

Someone said salaam to me and I didn’t reply, later I texted them W’alaikumassam. Is that fulfillment of my wajib? I usually reply but that one instance I didn’t.

Jazakallah

Replying to Salam

The wajb is fulfilled by responding to salam via text afterwards, however, it’s preferred to immediately respond verbally to refrain from forgetting and being sinful for it.
