Collecting funds for one’s education

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I wanted to ask about collection of funds for my education. I live in Pakistan, but I am not financially strong. I earn but I am unable to fulfil the family expenses. I want to study further in AUS, that way I can earn in dollars and might be able to pay off loans on my family and expenses. For that, can I collect funds from people? I am unable to save and fulfill family expenses at the same time but I dont want to make money in a haram way nor will I persue this if I am not allowed to in Islam.

Bismillaah

A: Collecting funds as you have explained sounds like begging. Obviously begging is a disgrace. A Muslim should not bring about disgrace on himself.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
