How should you perform Salaah on a Plane ?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The procedure of performing fardh salah in the plane is the same as performing fardh salah on the ground.

One should perform wudhu and perform the salah in a standing posture (qiyam).

It is incorrect to discard salah in the plane or perform salah with tayammum or unnecessarily sit and perform salah. If one sat and performed salah while he was able to stand and perform salah, the salah will be invalid. [1]

Hereunder are some tips for preparing to perform salah in the plane.

1)    Check out the timings of the various salah beforehand. This can be found on www.halaltrip.com/prayertimes/inflight/.

2)    Try to be in the state of wudhu. If that is not possible, wear leather socks or seal skin socks and follow the laws of masah on leather socks. At times the bathroom area in planes are narrow and may be difficult for some to wash their feet.

3)    Make arrangements with the flight attendants to facilitate for you to perform salah. It is important to cooperate with them as well.

Alhamdulillah, we have observed in our years of travel that flight attendants are generally cooperative and facilitate our needs to perform salah.
