I want to know if the following Hadith is authentic and the references for it as well.
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Verily, the people of Jahannam will cry so much that if ships were to sail in their tears, they would float and indeed they would be crying blood [instead of tears]”
Answer:
Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Qays (radiyallahu ‘anhu). He has declared the Hadith authentic and ‘Allamah Dhahabi concurs.
(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 605)
Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded a similar narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu). This further corroborates the Hadith in question.
