Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Who was Yahya bin Sa’id Al-Ansary and what was his status as a transmitter of Hadith?

Answer

Imam Yahya ibn Sa’id Al-Ansary was a senior reliable Hadith reporter in the era of the Tabi’un. He was from Madinah Munawwarah. He was also a Senior Judge (Qadi), rahimahullah.

He was a student of several Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum).

Among the Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum) that he met and reported Hadith from are: Sayyiduna Anas, Sayyiduna Saib ibn Yazid and Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu’anhum).

Imam Yahya was blessed with hundreds of students. Among them were stalwarts like: Imams Shu’bah, Sufyan Thawri, Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah, Malik, Ibnul Mubarak and many many more (rahimahumullah).

He passed away in the year 144 A.H. or after it.

All the six famous Hadith authors [of the sihah sittah] have accepted his narrations.
