Assalamualaikum,
Are men allowed to wear engagement/wedding rings? If yes, should it be on the left hand or righ hand?
Also, are any metals, except for gold, permissible?
Now-a-days mens rings are of tungsten, titanium and platinum. Are these permissible?

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق
It’s Haraam for the men to wear the gold ring.
The silver ring weighing one Mithqaal (according to grams nowadays: 4 grams 374 milligrams) is Halaal and permissible. (ایضاح النوادر ۲؍۱۹)
It’s Makrooh and not correct for men to wear rings made of metals other than Silver. One should avoid them.
If the Engagement Ring falls under permissibility standard mentioned above then one can wear it otherwise not.
The method of wearing a ring is as follows:
1) One can wear ring in either right or left hand. Some ‘Ulamaa have declared wearing in the right hand Preferred.
2) It is better that ring be worn in the little finger or the finger next to it. It’s forbidden for the men to wear ring in the index or middle finger.
3) It’s preferred that the gem should be towards the palm for men and above for the women.
قال علي رضي اللّٰہ عنہ: قال لي رسول اللّٰہ صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم: یا علي! سل اللّٰہ الہدیٰ والسداد، ونہاني أن أجعل الخاتم في ہٰذہ وہٰذہ، وأشار یعني بالسبابۃ والوسطیٰ۔ (سنن النسائي، کتاب الزینۃ ۵۲۲۰ )
عن أنس رضي اللّٰہ عنہ قال: اصطنع النبي صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم خاتمًا، قال: إنا قد اتخذنا خاتمًا ونقشنا فیہ نقشًا فلا ینقش علیہ أحدٌ، قال: فإني لأریٰ بریقہ في خنصرہ۔(صحیح البخاري، کتاب اللباس ،۵۸۷۴)
عن نافع أن عبد اللّٰہ رضي اللّٰہ عنہ حدثہ اصطنع خاتمًا من ذہب وجعل فصَّہ في بطن کفہ إذا لبسہ …۔ (صحیح البخاري، کتاب اللباس، ۵۸۷۶ )
فإذا تختم بالفضۃ ینبغي أن یکون الفص إلی بطن الکف بخلاف النساء۔ (خلاصۃ الفتاویٰ ۴؍۳۷۰)
ولا یزید وزنہ علی مثقال لقولہ علیہ الصلاۃ والسلام: إتخذہ من ورق ولا تزدہ علی مثقال۔ (البحر الرائق ۸؍۳۵۰ زکریا)
قال العلامۃ التمرتاشي: ولا یتختم بغیرہا کحجر وذہب وحدید وصفر۔ (تنویر الأبصار مع الدر المختار علی الشامي ۹؍۵۱۷ ) وقال ابن عابدین تحت قولہ: (فیحرم بغیرہا) وفي الجوہرۃ: والتختم بالحدید والصفر والنحاس والرصاص مکروہ للرجال والنساء۔ (شامي، کتاب الحظر والإباحۃ / فصل في اللبس ۹؍۵۱۸ زکریا)
