Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) and the secret of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

Question

Can you mention the Hadith regarding  Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) and the secret of  Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) which he did not divulge to his mother?

Answer

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

“Once Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) came to me as I was playing with some youngsters. He greeted us and sent me on an errand. I got delayed [and returned later than usual] to my mother. When I came to her she asked, ‘What delayed you’? I said, ‘Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) sent me on an errand’. She asked, ‘What was the errand’? I said, ‘It is a secret’. Thereupon she said, ‘Do not then divulge the secret of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to anyone”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2482)

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded a concise version of this narration.

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

“Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) confided a secret to me. I have not divulged it to anyone. Ummu Sulaym (radiyallahu ‘anha) asked me, but I did not divulge it to her”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 6289)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
