Paying a child’s school fees with zakaat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If a child below the age of puberty is in a fee paying Islamic school but because of the inability of the parents to pay the fee, the school is collecting zakaat to cover the fees. Is this permissible if the said parents are not eligible to receive zakaat and is our zakaat honoured if we donate?

Bismillaah

A: If they are not eligible for zakaat then you should not receive zakaat for the child.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
