Could you please provide  proofs for not putting quran on the floor and if a person does so then what is the ruling of such an action??

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātu

The Quran is the speech (kalaam) of Allah and deserves utmost respect. Respect is according to the understanding and practise of people. If people regard a particular act as respect then that will be regarded as respect. If a particular act is regarded disrespectful, that will be regarded as disrespectful. Consider the following practice of Rasulullah SallAllahu Alayhi Wasallam regarding the Tawrah (Abu Dawud 6/498):

“……….They (the Jews) placed a pillow for the Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi Wasallam upon which he sat. He then said to them, “Bring the Tawrah,” so they came with the Tawrah. The Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi Wasallam placed the Tawrah on a pillow………”  [1]

The Fuqaha have also presented the following example of disrespect to the Quran:

It is not permissible to place the Quran under/below the head except for the sake of protection.

It is clear from the conduct of Rasulullah that placing the Tawrah on a pillow is a mark of respect. This shows that the Quran should be respected and placed on an elevated place. This is also understood from the above mentioned ruling of the Fuqaha. Placing the Quran on the floor is generally regarded to be disrespectful.[3]
