Would I Be Sinning for Using Skincare To Clear My Complexion and Then Going Out in Public?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

I recently asked a question about if it is permissible for women to use skincare because I read somewhere that It was forbidden for women to beautify themselves in the presence of non-mahram men. I got an answer saying it was permissible. It also said that I could get rewarded for doing it for my husband. What if I am not doing it for my husband? Do I get a sin for going out with clear skin? What if I get complimented by men? I wear hijab, but I was wondering about this.

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. Using skincare to take care of your complexion is not sinful in any way and, with the right intention, can be rewarded even if it is not for your husband.

No Sin

There is no sin for going out of the house with clear skin because it is not adorned or beautified with make-up or jewelry. It is just seen as normal healthy skin, which was far more common among people before the advent of the modern Western diet. Please see the link below as well:
