Q. Our pet cat has taken ill in its old age; lost sight in one eye, losing balance, has a skin disease, etc. We really do not want to see him suffer anymore. Is it a sin for us to have him put down by the SPCA?
A. If there is no hope in curing the cat, it will be permissible to euthanize the cat in a humane manner to ease it of its misery. (Mawahibul Jalil)
