Can we take revenge for black magic?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

I heard through two Ahle-Haqq alims and amils that I was under severe black magic and because of that I went through long-term hospitalization and almost died, but thanks to an amil in Hyderabad he treated me and I’m now alive and well. My illness was a mystery to medicine because my illness was studied at various high prestigious hospitals in the U.S. My doctors can never tell my illness. What is the ruling for a person who had tried to kill my parents and I through black magic? How can I stay away from such enemies? Can I take revenge?

Can we take revenge for black magic?
Just because someone says that someone else has done magic on you (no matter if the person giving this opinion is a rightly guided scholar) we cannot give the ruling that magic has been done. The existence of magic cannot be confirmed unless it is verified: Either you are told from the magician himself than he has done magic on you; or he has testified to this in front of someone else; or someone has seen him doing magic on you etc.
Sometimes feelings (physical and psychological) and situations can be from magic; but they can also be from Jinns or from some other reasons. Sometimes, aamils can also be mistaken. Some people can benefit from the tasks given by these aamils even if magic had not been done on them. Point being, you are cured now and you should thank Allah. Now, the next step is to continue your protection from these types of things through duas etc. If there is no proof that this person is trying to murder your parents you have no right to take retaliatory actions (Just because someone says so is not proof). But if there is proof, then there can be some permission for taking retaliatory actions; but through the proper channels.
