Are woman allowed to work if they wear a hijab?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Are woman allowed to work if they wear a hijab?

If the meaning of hijab here is niqaab (i.e. to cover one’s face completely), then it is permissible for a lady to work. Then, of course, there is an additional condition and that is that a lady should not be alone with a strange man. Thus, if it is such a job that you will be only dealing with ladies and not dealing with strange men, then it is OK. Also, if the job is so far away that the travel coming and going there will result in contact with strange men, then if that lady travels with her face covered it may be permissible.
