I want to know if we buy an apartment building and rent them out is there a zakat on the building itself of just the rent money that we get from the tenant? In another word do we have to pay zakat on the building every year or just the income that we get from the tenants? One more question can we pay property tax or any other tax with interest money?
There is no zakat on buildings you have, even if you have extra buildings. If there is an income which is enough to make zakat obligatory on you then you have to pay from that income. The taxes you are talking about, it is allowed to pay taxes with interest money. However, if we receive interest money it is not allowed to keep it just for that purpose.
