The meaning of ‘ahlus sunnah wal jamah’ is that those people who follow the footsteps of the prophet peace be upon him and his companions, and his beliefs, behavior, and way of life. Usually, everyone claims that they are from the ‘ahlus sunnah wal jamah’ but in reality, very few people meet the criteria. It means that a person must inculcate in every walk of his life the way shown by the prophet peace be upon him.
With respect to all of the deviant groups, such as’mutazila’
‘khawarij’ ‘jabriya’ and ‘jahmiya’ etc. is that they would go to hellfire not only because of their bad actions, like everyone else will but also because of their bad beliefs. The people of ‘ahlus sunnah wal jamah’ will be protected by their beliefs. Sometimes, if the beliefs are so corrupt that they take a person out to the fold of Islam then because of that, that person would be in hellfire forever. If a person is involved in innovative practices, because of its corrupt beliefs then the punishment would be proportionate to that.
