What should be recited when visiting our loved one’s grave.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org
What should be recited when visiting our loved one’s grave ? Can we use a Grave Marker to identify our loved one’s grave, and also to signify that this spot belongs to someone, so that it’s not dug up again?
When a person is visiting someone’s grave the first thing recommended to do is to say salam, stay as far away from the body as one would when he is meeting a live person. The jurists say that the distance should be one hand length facing the body and his back in the direction of qibla. Than one should recite the verses of quran as one can remember. There are some portions of the quran that have more merit or virtues to be recited, as reported in the Hadith of the prophet so, one should read those and send its reward to the dead. If one cannot read the verses of the quran then one should just pray for forgiveness of the dead. If visitation from many people is expected then one can put some sign or tombstone on the grave to help identify the person as the jurists allow it. It’s not allowed to solidify the grave with concrete but one can put something by its head so people would know the person.
