Hair Restoration

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamoalikum,

I am 21 yrs old, female and have been suffering from hair loss to the point where sections of my scalp are showing. I have tried many pills and topical treatments with very low success and high side effects. I have consulted a couple experts in this field and have been suggested as a good candidate for Stem Cell Hair Restoration. In this procedure, a stem cell serum is injected into the scalp to stimulate hair growth. This has a 93% success rate which I was informed is very good and there are no alternatives to this besides hair transplant (which is major surgery). I understand that using stem cells harvested from other humans is Haram, but given my condition, is there any leeway? I am not doing this for beautification purposes, i just want to close the gaps in my scalp stop hair from falling out more.

Jazak Allah

In answer to your question, there is accommodation of approval in both cases. If the hair of another person's head is applied to your head during treatment, then it is not permissible.

He said, Allah has cursed:

a. the woman who puts another's hair in her hair, and on that woman who puts her hair in the hair of another woman.

b. and upon the tattooist and the tattooed.
