Narrating Drama words of Divorce

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

My question is regarding divorce. My husband and me frequently watch dramas together. During the dramas there are dialogues regarding divorce my husband repeats them without intending to give divorce. For instance, we were watching a scene and I left  for a few minutes and when I came back I asked him what happened in the drama and he repeated I am divorcing you that’s what the character in the drama said to his wife (main talaq deta hoon). My question is does this count as divorce?

Thank you and waiting for your reply.

If these words of the husband are the copying of the drama words then it’s called a narration. Saying it this way the divorce doesn’t take effect, however, it’s better to avoid copying these words in future.
