Supplications to Begin One’s Fast

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Are there any supplications from the sunnah of our Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam), his companions, or any of our righteous predecessors with regards to beginning one’s fast?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I hope you are in the best of health and spirits, insha’Allah.

I haven’t come across a supplication that is recommended to say when beginning one’s fast.

Considering that it is the pre-dawn time, a time when supplications are answered, one should pray for oneself, one’s loved ones, and the whole umma. Ask for forgiveness, sincerity, acceptance, closeness, and any needs and concerns of this life and the next for oneself and others.

Your Lord has said, ’Call upon Me and I will answer you. Surely those who wax too proud to do Me service shall enter Hell utterly abject.’ [Qur’an, 40:60]

The majority of the narrated supplications are in relation to breaking one’s fast. As such, please see the following link: Prophetic Supplications for Fasting

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Tabraze Azam
