Is It Permissible For Someone To Wear a Bracelet With Their Birthstone In It?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Is it permissible for someone to wear a bracelet with their birthstone in it if they do not believe in the benefits or harms of such stones?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,

It is permissible for a woman to adorn herself with all types of precious stones. As for a man, scholars differed with regards to all precious stones save the ‘Aqiq stone. [Mawsili, al-Ikhtiyar fi T’alil al-Mukhtar]

The ‘Aqiq stone is permitted due to the direct text of the Prophetic doings. For this reason, some scholars, such as Al-Halwani and Qadi Khan (Allah have mercy on them) have chosen their permissibility like the ‘Aqiq stone. However, other scholars have not deemed it permissible. [Ibid.]

Adornment For Men

It is established that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) wore a silver ring which He used as a stamp. Imam Mawsili mentions in al-Ikhtiyar the following:

“Wearing a ring (i.e. silver) is a sunna for the one in need of it like the sultan, the judge, or those in a similar position. As for those who do not have a need for it, it is best to leave.” [Ibid.]

Things like watches and glasses have a utilitarian function and are not merely adornment.

I hope this helps,
Allah knows best.
