Will the Name of Imam Mahdi Be Exactly “Muhammad”?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Salman Younas

Question: Assalam aleykum

Will the name of Imam Mahdi be exactly “Muhammad” or only similar to it?

Answer: assalamu alaykum

The hadith concerning the name of Imam Mahdi identify it as being the same as the name of the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him). In one hadith, for example, the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him stated that, “his name will be the same as my name.” [Abu Dawud]

Since “Muhammad” is the most well-known name of the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon), scholars have concluded that the name of Imam Mahdi is Muhammad.
