How Should Two Persons Pray Together?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: As salam alaykum,

1. How should two people praying together stand?

2. If a latecomer joins the prayer what should they do?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that this message finds you well, insha’Allah.

The basis is that the imam should stand in front of the congregation.

However, if there is only one person other than the imam, then he should stand to the right of the imam, ensuring his heel is behind that of the imam. If another person then joins, the imam should step forward, or the followers should step back.
