Who are a person’s mahrams

Q: Which male persons are mahram or legal to a woman for her to uncover her face in front of them?


A: All those people who one is unable to marry throughout his/her life are referred to as mahrams.

For a male, among his female mahrams will be his mother, grandmother, his sister, brother’s and sister’s daughter, mother’s sister, father’s sister, grandparents’ sisters, granddaughter, mother in law, and daughter in law.

For a female, among her mahrams will be her father, grandfather, her brother, brother’s and sister’s son, father’s brother, grandparents’ brothers, grandson, father-in-law and son-in-law.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
