Can I Pray At My Desk At Work?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

Can I pray at my desk at work?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

In the name of Allah, the Inspirer of truth

If you mean by “praying at your desk” that you pray in your office by your desk standing up with proper bowing and prostrations then there is of course nothing wrong with that. In fact, this is probably better than performing it on a stairwell.

However, if “praying at your desk” means to pray sitting down in your seat and just bowing your head in prostration on your desk, then that is not valid. Standing, facing the qibla, bowing, and prostration are part of the precondition and integrals of salat.

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam

Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf
