Using calligraphic designs on textile related products

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

One of my friend is a textile designer. He wants to know the rulings on using calligraphic designs on textile related products specially like clothes, curtains, sofa clothes, cushions etc.?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

Mere designs are fine on such surfaces. However, it would be impermissible to write Qur’anic verses or the Names of Allah or His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), or anything of the Shariah sciences, on anything that is likely to be sat on, placed on the floor, or used in other ways contrary to the respect due to the signs of Allah.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
