Are anxiolytics (such as valium or xanax) haraam? What if prescribed by doctors for the treatment of serious anxiety disorder?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

As long as they do not cause serious long-term harm, which would be known through expert medical opinion, they would be permitted.

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
