The extra-special fast and ruining one’s worldly life

About the extra [See Lesson 3 of the Essentials of Fasting,www.sunnipath.com] special fast. It basically means that I cannot leave my house or the masjid because doing anything else would not allow me to keep such a fast. Can you please explain that one to me? I mean I have a day to day life. I can’t stop everything for one month so that I can achieve what is written there.

I know Allah is not unfair. I know He wants us to lead a respectable life and to work or study so we can better His deen. But to say that I basically am handicapped from this world for a month sounds really impractical. Allah forgive me if I have said anything against His deen but I just want to understand that a little more thoroughly.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It simply relates to not busying one’s heart and soul with merely worldly concerns, while involved in one’s worldly activities.

Allah described them in the Qu’ran:

024.037 Men whom neither business nor sale busies from remembrance of Allah and constancy in prayer and paying to the poor their due; who fear a day when hearts and eyeballs will be overturned;

024.038 That Allah may reward them with the best of what they did, and increase reward for them of His bounty. Allah gives blessings without stint to whom He will.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
