During a discussion on some science-related topics, one of the brothers become excited and this caused emission of something from his penis (without ejaculation). Does this affect the validity of his fast?

Walaikum assalam,

This emission most likely be pre-sexual fluid (madhy). Even actual sperm only invalidates the fast if it was as a result of ejaculation.

The brother’s fast was not broken.
