Praying behind a Salafi

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I am a sunni Muslim from the Indian sub-continent, working in Saudi Arabia. What does the scholars say regarding prayers behind the salafis (Wahabis)? Is it permitted, or should one repeat the prayers done behind them? If it is not permitted, then one will avoid going to the masjid for congregational prayers. Again, is it permitted?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Wa Alaykum Assalam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate

The position of my teachers is that one prays behind every believer, though when one has a reasonable choice one chooses those free of innovation or attitudinal divergences from sound understanding.
