Placement of the gaze in tashahhud

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

where does one keep one’s gaze during the first tahshahhud and the final tashahhud/salawaat?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

The sunna, in general, is to lower one’s gaze in prayer. The scholars have indicated that this is optimally fulfilled by looking towards one’s thigh area–with back and head straight–in both the first and final sittings.

And Allah alone gives success.
