Dua’s In Prayer: Important Details

One of the best times to make dua is during sajda, yes? is it therefore valid, that when I am praying, say, my 4 rakat fardh in Zuhur prayer, when I go down into sajda, to make dua e.g. “Oh Allah please remove my difficulties and answer my prayers”. Is it allowed to make dua during sajda in our compulsory prayers?

Walaikum assalam,

It is valid to make dua in prayer, including in prostration, unless one is the Imam, because of the command not to lengthen one’s prayer.

Two points, though:

1. One should only make dua after having made a minimum of 3 tasbihs (saying Subhana Rabbi al-A`la), because the latter is a strong confirmed sunna.

2. One should only use supplications from the Qur’an and Sunna, or ask for things that one could only ask Allah for.
