Reasons for Male Ring Restrictions

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

My understanding is that men can wear silver rings of a limited size. Can you please tell me why men are not allowed any other material? It is to help understand the wisdom of this restriction more, inshaAllah.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

The texts of the sunna clearly and unequivocally condemn men imitating women, and also explicitly forbade them to wear jewelry in general and, in other hadiths, rings.

Then, the exception was made for silver rings. When a particular matter is excepted from a general prohibition, the general prohibition remains and only the particular matter that was made an exception is permitted.
