Wudu and Barriers

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

My cheap socks bled their color when I got them wet. As a result, my toenails were left with dye on them, coloring them at the edges with color that comes out only with rubbing ….would this be considered to block water? similarly, does smudged ink on the fingernails prevent a valid wudu?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Things without a perceptible body (such as ink and your sock’s dye) are not considered barriers preventing water reaching the skin. Thus, your wudu would be valid.
