Hizb-ut-Tahrir group

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: There is a group called ‘Hizb-ut-Tahrir’ that says they are working to re-establish the Khilafah by following the Sunnah way of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasalam). They follow the fiqh of some sheikh who they claim was mujtahid and graduated from Al-Azhar. Some of the things they propagate is that it is fardh upon every Muslim to be working for the re-establishment of the Khilafah as we should be ruled only by Islam. They go as far as saying that just as Salah is Fardh, Khilafat is also Fardh. They also say that one should be politically aware as a Muslim and that the matter concerning the Ummah can only be resolved if we live under a Khalifah. I want to know if this truly has basis in Islam and whether it is Fardh upon us all to be working for the Khilafah to be established?

Bismillaah

A: We are not acquainted with this subject.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
