Q: Can Sadaqatul Fitr be calculated by the price of flour, as in the place I stay, wheat and barley is not found (or very difficult to find), and dates are extemely expensive.
A: In a place where wheat and barley are not found, Sadaqatul Fitr can be calculated according to the price of half saa’ of wheat flour. (i.e. 1.592136 Kg) or one saa’ of barley flour. (i.e. 3.184 kg). However, if wheat or barley is found, the sadaqatul fitr will be calculated according to the price of half saa’ of wheat or one saa’ of barley.
(نصف صاع ) فاعل يجب ( من بر أو دقيقه أو سويقه أو زبيب ) وجعلاه كالتمر وهو رواية عن الإمام وصححه البهنسي وغيره وفي الحقائق و الشرنبلالية عن البرهان وبه يفتى ( أو صاع تمر أو شعير )
قال الشامي في رد المحتار: قوله ( أو دقيقه أو سويقه ) الأولى أن يراعي فيهما القدر والقيمة احتياطا وإن نص على الدقيق في بعض الأخبار هداية لأن في إسناده سليمان بن أرقم وهو متروك الحديث فوجب الاحتياط بأن يعطي نصف صاع دقيق بر أو صاع دقيق شعير يساويان نصف صاع بر وصاع شعير لا أقل من نصف يساوي نصف صاع بر أو أقل من صاع يساوي صاع شعير ولا نصف لا يساوي نصف صاع بر أو صاع لا يساوي صاع شعير فتح وقوله فوجب الاحتياط مخالف لتعبير الهداية و الكافي بالأولى إلا أن يحمل أحدهما على الآخر تأمل. Q: I am in a place where wheat and barley is not found to work out the price of sadaqatul fitr. You gave me the answer to work on the price of half saa’ of wheat flour or 1 saa’ of barley flour. My question now is that there are many grades of wheat and barley flour. Should the price be worked out on the cheap grade, expensive grade or the middle grade?
A: If the price of sadaqatul fitr is worked out through the cheap grade, it will suffice. Though working out the price through the middle grade or the expensive grade will be better since that will be more beneficial to the poor.
