Sitting around the mayyit and reciting Quraan

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. When a Muslim passes away and the body is brought home after the ghusl, should the body be placed on the ground? Or should it be placed on a table?

2. Should people sit around the body and recite or should they stand around the body? Please advise on what is preferable or ideal.

Bismillaah

A:

1. The general practice is that it is placed on the ground.

2. Sit and read the Quraan Shareef.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
