Respecting one’s father despite him not fulfilling his responsibility

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My father doesn’t take his responsibility as a father and he doesn’t respond when spoken to and I stopped greeting him, am I sinful?

Bismillaah

A: If he is not fulfilling his responsibility as a father, then this does not make it permissible for you to neglect your responsibility as a daughter towards him. You should not compromise your showing respect and kindness towards him. You should make dua for him after salaah and ask Allah Ta’ala to guide him.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
