Intending to stay unmarried for life

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am 30 years old and unemployed. I decided to stay unmarried my whole life. Is it allowed in Islam? Are there any losses to be unmarried and what are the benefits to be married?

Bismillaah

A: You may just postpone the marriage until you feel that you will be able to take care of a wife. Abstain from all doubtful areas.

When marriage is a sunnat then a sunnat cannot be a loss. It is left up to the individual, if he does it correctly then there is all for him to gain. In order to do things correctly one needs to learn how to do it. Failure of not learning will obviously bring problems.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
