Waleemah and feeding after nikaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. I would like to know if waleemahs are only for males or are females allowed to be invited as well, if there is complete segregation. I heard that some Ulama say that Waleemah is only Sunnah for males.

2. Also what is the position of the bride’s side of the family feeding after the wedding?

Bismillaah

A:

1. It is for both males and females.

2. Walima is conducted by the boys side. The practice of the girls side feeding after the nikaah is not established and should be omitted.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
