Giving a bribe to avoid getting a speeding fine

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I was pulled over on the highway for driving fast according to the law of our country. I was trying to make it for salaah at my destination when the policeman pulled me over. In the rush I fell into ghaflat and gave him a R200 bribe to avoid the R750 fine and 2 demerits. Please advise on what to do.

Bismillaah

A: Make istighfaar and in future be more careful.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
