The letter Ayn in the Qur’an

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Please throw light on the use of Ayn in the Qur’anic text as under

1. What is the significance of Ayn

2. Why are big Ayn and small Ayn used

3. Why are there less Ayats and more Ayats between successive Ayns? What is the reason for this different kind of spacing?

Bismillaah

A: The ayn that you are referring to perhaps are the rukus. This was not something revealed from the heavens. It was just for convenience sake. Generally a ruku brings out the details of a subject or some portion of a subject and the subject sometimes is small and sometimes it is big.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
