Keeping the names of the Ambiyaa, Sahaaba and the pious of the past

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I would like to name my first born son Zephanaia Nishan, since it is a hebrew name, meaning “treasured by God” the authorities requires a valid reference of the name being allowed to be named. I live in Maldives. Can you please help me.

Bismillaah

A: We have not come across this name. It is best that you keep the names of the Ambiyaa, Sahaaba and the pious of the past.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
